Solo Exhibition: Blame February

Special thank you:
My mother and father, who supported me
Mano, Ena, and Tomo, who helped me set up and clean up
Leila and Mitsuki for helping out
Every single person who came their way
I was born in February, making this month a reminder of the people of last year, this year, and next year. I Blame February for this creation--if not for that day and the people I met, this would not have come into the present. Because I presented this exhibition after my high school graduation, many were soon leaving for Australia, California, Belgium, Hong Kong, you name it. This is a unique experience coming from an international school background, but it reminded me of the power of photographs that capture the moments when time slips away too fast. My friends and family are my only subjects in these photographs. These are their glass shoes they left for me. Whether we never speak or meet again, I'm thankful for the moments and time we shared.
In its most cliché form, we all look at the same moon. In Japan, we were told we chose our mothers in the sky. In my Catholic school, we were told we would go to the sky after death. As my name, Hikaru, means "shining brightly," which my dad gave me in hopes that I would shine bright like a star, it only made sense for me to create this exhibition under the theme of a "room in the sky."
For me, it's important to say goodbye and to say my thank you. And after all, there is no point in holding on when midnight strikes every day... So this is my letter to you all and to the city of Tokyo.
